Wedding Style Made Simple!

Sue Melville

All eyes are on the bride for the special day! I help the bride find the perfect dress that represents her inner beauty and showcases her outer style on the big day. The result…a cohesive theme, style, and vision that represents the dreams of the couple as they begin their new life together. When I help a bride shop for her wedding dress, here are some things I take into consideration:

Style:
The wedding dress is the center of attention so it needs to match the theme and style of your wedding. I help the bride define how they want to look to fit the style of their wedding, whether that’s casual, romantic, dramatic, traditional, etc. I’ll keep the venue and theme in mind as you browse through the bridal gowns, so that the gown you choose doesn’t clash with your overall wedding style.

Silhouette:
Whether it’s A-line, empire, or mermaid, wedding dress silhouettes can be confusing so the names used to describe them will be something you’ll quickly need to get used to! Click here to see a great visual summary from TheKnot.com of the different styles and find out which ones you like the most.

Shape:
Every bride is different and I work with them to figure out how to best flatter and fit their body shape. We work to accentuate your best…and hide the rest, using the right undergarments to allow the dress to fit you snugly and hang perfectly. I can guide you on dress sizes for bridal gowns, which are different from regular dress sizes, as well as the size of dress to choose if you plan to lose weight before the big day. Hint: It’s far easier to take a dress in than trying to work with one that’s too tight.

Once you’ve decided the style, silhouette, and shape that will suit you, you’re ready to start trying on dresses! This is where I can help pull out the best designs from the 100’s available in the store to fit your budget, save you time and money and get that “Yes!” to the dress.

Style Tip:
Be open to a different style than the original vision you had. Brides often come into the bridal store with an idea of what they want…and then fall for something completely different, yet perfect for their special day. Don’t be fooled by how the dress looks on the hanger. As the saying goes, “Sometimes you don’t know what you want, until you try it on!”
