All of a sudden our world has turned upside down and we have been directed to “shelter in place” by Executive Order 107. This may seem like permission to live in your sweats and pajamas, after all, who is going to see me, right? I want to encourage you to also look put together. It won’t take long, I promise, and studies show that putting yourself together can increase productivity and boost your self-esteem.
Here are some quick tips to help get you through the sheltering in place:
If your job description involves homeschooling, it is important to teach your students that self-care matters! Remember health class in middle school? They stressed self-care and good grooming (thank goodness for the deodorant talk!) Taking a few minutes to get put together makes a difference in how you approach the day. It will give you a confidence a boost, and get your mindset more productive. Who doesn’t need a boost when trying to teach material you have long forgotten? Try a shirt/ blouse with a collar to add authority or a tee shirt with a pretty necklace and fun earrings. It’s still comfortable, but polished
Dressing for a Zoom call during Executive Order 107, here are a couple of things to keep in mind so that you don’t get caught with your pants down. First, find out if it is an audio or visual call. For visual calls, remember people can’t unsee things. Be prepared. Put on a clean, work-appropriate top, If your going to get up during the call make sure your bottom half is dressed appropriately. Leggings work, with a t-shirt and cardigan- just add accessories.
With all that is going on around the world, we need to do everything we can to be positive. Taking care of yourself is an important step. You can be stylish AND comfortable.
